Lt. Col. (SAPS - Retired) Freddie van Wyk (Chief Instructor), owner and Managing Director of EXPRO, has served in the South African Police Service before retiring in 2008, ending a career of 32 years. The last 11 years of his career he spends as the Commander of the VIP Protection Unit. His role varied from Close Protection Officer to Commander / Team Leader of a Multi Disciplined Team protecting Domestic and International Dignitaries.

He has been awarded several medals for Faithfull Service and Counter Terrorism. He is regarded as a very experienced and professional Close Protector, not only in performing the protection task, but in planning and coordinating large scale protection duties of high profile individuals. His vast back ground and specialized training courses made him a respected individual in the Close Protection Field. No individual was ever harmed under his protection; neither physically nor in integrity.

On retirement Freddie wanted to ensure that all the knowledge and experienced he gained during a very successful career did not go to waste. He established and registered EXPRO Protection Services to train and render a Professional Close Protection Service to the Private Sector, specifically in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro pole, as he identified a need for a professional individual that will be more than just another “Bodyguard”. He believes that the protection of the innocent is crucial in ensuring a stable society.
